چکیده

Restoration of totally edentulous patients with removable prosthesis designs that incorporate osseointegrated implants provides the patient with alternatives to mucosa-supported complete denture [1]. A highly predictable and effective approach is the implant-supported overdenture, which offers improved retention, stability, function, proprioception, and comfort [2,3]. Compared with complete denture, implantsupported overdenture improves the stability of the prosthesis. Increased number of implants may guarantee more retention. However, there is a problem of increased cost and anatomical limitations in severely resorbed residual ridges, especially in the mandible. Several studies demonstrated that the two-implantssupported overdenture therapy can be considered as a very reliable treatment for patients with an edentulous mandible [4-6]. Therefore, two-implants-supported overdenture in the mandible should be the standard treatment modality for full edentulous patients suffering from discomfort with their conventional denture [4-6].

Comparison of the Effect of Ball and Bar Attachment Designs on Retention and Stability of Mandibular Implant-Supported Overdentures

Objectives: The present study evaluated the effect of bar and ball attachment designs on retention and stability of a mandibular overdenture supported by four implants. Methods: An edentulous mandibular acrylic resin model with four implants in the anterior part of the ridge (A, B, D and E) was fabricated. A metal framework simulating the overdenture was also fabricated. Totally, 30...

Use of guide planes and implant supported bar overdentures: a case report.

A stable occlusal plane is achieved with the combination of two maxillary, implant-supported milled bars securing an overdenture and bilateral, mandibular-fixed partial dentures. Overdenture retention is enhanced with attachments. Guide planes assure proper alignment of the overdenture for easy patient insertion and improved prosthesis stability. A reliable technique for verifying the accuracy ...

Effects of overdenture retention designs and implant orientations on load transfer characteristics.

Various approaches have been used for the retention and stabilization of implant-supported overdentures. This study examined photoelastically the simulated load transfer characteristics of a resilient cap attachment with moderately atrophied mandibular plastic models with two implant orientations. Comparison was made with overdentures supported by a splinting bar and a bar with distal resilient...

Comparison of Three Attachments in Implant-Tissue Supported Overdentures: An In Vitro Study

OBJECTIVE Retention and resistance of the implant-tissue supported overdenture may be affected by the type of attachment. The aim of this research was to compare the retention and resistance of Nobel Biocare Ball (NBB), Nobel Biocare Bar and Clip (NBBC) and Sterngold ERA Red (ERAR) attachments on an implant-tissue supported overdenture model. MATERIALS AND METHODS The attachment samples were ...
